Commuter
Congrats on choosing to attend Victoria College as a commuter student ‐ and welcome to Vic! What exactly is a commuter you might ask? A commuter is any student not living in residence, whether you are just down the street from Vic, or take the TTC and GO Transit from two hours away. Victoria College is nearly 80% commuter students! We are also one of the only colleges in the University of Toronto to offer extended programming exclusively for commuter students – that’s YOU! At Victoria College we strive to provide commuters with a comprehensive experience and to integrate you fully into the Victoria College community.
Interested in enhancing commuter life at Vic by running tons of fun events? Look out for the Victoria Off Campus Association posting on www.vusac.ca for First Year Representative applications in September, or send an email to VUSAC’s Commuter Commissioner Rob Rubbini at: commuter@vusac.ca Be sure to join the “(VOCA) Victoria Off Campus Association” Facebook group for all the latest in commuter news.
What is Commuter Orientation on August 7th and 8th?
Commuter Orientation is a weekend of programming put on every year exclusively for commuter students, before the full Orientation Week and school year begin. All students who register for Commuter Orientation are provided a room to stay in for Saturday night, and food for the weekend. Activities planned for the weekend include talks on university life, info sessions, tours, socials, and lots of fun! Commuter Orientation aims to show commuters what it’s like to be a residence student, with meals in the gorgeous Victoria College Burwash Dining Hall, and a residence room for the night. The weekend also hopes to create a community among commuter students, and to help integrate them into Vic campus life.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I can’t come to Commuter Orientation?
Don’t worry! Victoria College offers a lot of commuter programming during the year. One of the many ways to get involved in the Vic community is by attending events sponsored by the Victoria Off-Campus Association (VOCA). These events include free weekly pancake breakfasts for commuters, outings, and socials. There are also a wide variety of clubs and activities available on campus (everything from sports to journalism).
If I come to Commuter Orientation, can I still come to Orientation in September?
Our Orientation Week in September is for everyone, so please try to attend. We also provide commuters with the chance to stay in residence (free of charge!) during the week. If you wish to stay in residence during Orientation week (Sept. 6th-10th) please indicate this when filling out the online registration form.
Are meals included during Commuter Orientation?
Yes! Your $35 fee is the only thing you need to pay for the weekend. Have breakfast before you check-in, and bring some extra cash for snacks or a coffee, but otherwise we’ve got you covered. There is a free Lunch and Dinner on Saturday, and free Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday!
What about meals during Orientation Week (September 6th -10th)?
There are no free meals provided during Orientation Week (Sept. 6th-10th) but a commuter meal plan is available from the dining hall to cover some meals.
